The Don Wood Foundation is committed to growing the talent pipeline for the advanced manufacturing community. To achieve our goal, we have identified five key occupational areas for growth to ensure a robust workforce. These are:
1) automation and robotics, 2) engineering, 3) manufacturing, 4) precision machining, and 5) welding. The data shown here summarizes Career and Technical Education (CTE) enrollment in these areas for Northeast Indiana.

Key Data Exploration for CTE Enrollments

The graph above provides a breakdown of  student CTE enrollments in manufacturing, precision machining, welding, automation and robotics, and engineering courses in Northeast Indiana for the last two school years. By going to the school year drop-down box and selecting 2021, you can see total enrollments in these courses totaled 2,215. By selecting 2022, you can see total enrollments totaled 3,993.

Enrollments increased 80% from 2021-2022.
Scroll over individual counties or make a selection in the "filter by district" drop-down boxes to see where enrollments were highest. Use the "filter by school" drop-down box to view enrollment data in these areas for a specific school or CTE center. Continue exploring the data elements that are most important to you.

Northeast Indiana high school students enrolled in CTE courses are surveyed each year to gauge the degree to which they are exploring, understanding, and preparing for a career. The surveys also shed light on how much students know about local occupations and industries, their perceptions of those careers, and what barriers they may be experiencing in preparing for future success. While a broad range of CTE students were surveyed, the data shown here summarizes career and technical education (CTE) student responses in 1) advanced manufacturing, welding, precision machining, industrial maintenance; 2) information technology, computer programming, networking; and 3) STEM, Project Lead the Way.

Let's talk about student outcomes in terms of
concentrations, certifications, dual credits, and work-based learning.

CTE Educational Outcomes

Use the dropdown menu on the left to change the educational outcome shown. Other dropdown menus can also be used to filter data. Select a bar on the bar graph to filter the map by occupational area and year. Hover over chart elements for more information.

Educational outcomes are based on the location where the students take their CTE courses.
  • Concentrator - The concentrator category shows the number of students who have completed at least two advanced CTE courses in a single program of study.
  • Has Certification - This category shows the number of high school seniors who have earned industry-recognized credentials. These are based on the “senior cohort,” which represents any student who earned certifications in that program and started high school four years ago (though they could have earned the certification any year).
  • Has Dual Credits - This is the number of high school seniors who have been enrolled concurrently in a secondary CTE program and the corresponding college course. These are based on the “senior cohort,” which represents any student who earned dual credits in that program and started high school four years ago (though they could have earned dual credits any year). Students who successfully complete the courses earn both high school and college credits.
  • WBL Any Hours - Students who have participated in work-based learning (learning and training experiences with industry professionals in workplace settings).
