CYCLES
The Don Wood Foundation accepts grant requests on a rolling cycle. This means that you can apply at any time when your project is ready without facing deadlines. We ask that you begin the processing of your grant proposal at least 180 days in advance of the date you need funding. This gives foundation staff adequate time to meet with you, research your proposal and ask any follow-up questions. A Program Officer from the foundation will be your point of contact throughout the process and for questions and project updates as needed.
PROCESS
The grant process will now include four steps managed within our grant portal. A potential grantee created pre-LOI idea document, a pre-grant meeting, the completion of a collaborative LOI, and a formal application. The purpose of the meeting will accomplish several steps, including collaboratively discussing the ideas in the pre-LOI, completing the additional questions for the final LOI, and finally reviewing both leading predictive indicators and lagging project outcomes that will be tracked to ensure project success.
More specifically, the process starts with a quiz that will determine eligibility for a grant, continues with several questions to help the grantee articulate project ideas and success measures, and ends with an opportunity to schedule the pre-grant meeting with a Program Officer. During this meeting, we will work together to fill out the LOI. If more work is needed or additional questions arise, further discussion(s) will be scheduled. Once the LOI has been successfully finished, it will be evaluated to determine the next steps. This could include a formal application, a declination, a determination that even more information is needed, or a decision. Communication will occur via an automatically generated email from our grant portal or contact with your assigned program officer. All of these steps are necessary as part of the process of submitting your request.
Finally, if the foundation determines that further consideration of your request is warranted, you will be invited to submit a formal application. As noted above, this invitation will likely come from an automatically generated email. At any step during the process, if you have questions or need assistance, please feel free to reach out to your contact at the foundation, or if no one has been identified, contact us using info@DonWoodFoundation.org.
