Rolling Grant Program

Apply
The Rolling Grant Program is the Don Wood Foundation’s primary grant program. Please carefully review the Grant Guidelines to determine if your proposal aligns with the Don Wood Foundation’s grantmaking priorities.

We welcome you to take our eligibility quiz and submit a Grant Ideas Form via our online Grant Portal here

Application Timeline
The Don Wood Foundation accepts grant inquiries at any time. We ask that you begin working on your grant proposal at least 180 days before you need funding. Once you submit a Grant Ideas Form, a Program Officer will schedule a meeting with you to discuss your ideas and evaluate your proposal’s alignment with the Don Wood Foundation’s funding priorities. If the Program Officer determines you are ready to apply, they will send a link to the application and discuss the next steps.

Formal applications are by invitation only. If you have been invited to apply, your Program Officer will work with you to determine an application deadline. The Grant Committee will review your application and make a funding recommendation to the Board of Trustees. The Board meets six times each year. After the Board meeting, your Program Officer will contact you.

Outcomes
Successful applications include up to three “SMART” outcomes. SMART stands for specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound. If a grant is awarded, you will be asked to submit an Outcomes Report sharing the progress you made during the grant period in attaining your outcomes.

Strong outcomes typically include metrics that demonstrate a positive change, such as (but not limited to):
  • Skills and credentials earned by the learners or entrepreneurs served by the program;
  • The impact of support services to help more learners or entrepreneurs access the Funnel, especially underserved or under-resourced individuals;
  • The impact of greater capacity to help more learners and entrepreneurs move through the Funnel; or
  • The measurable benefit to the broader community of helping more people attain new skills or credentials or to start and build their businesses.

Don Wood advocated for a lifelong learning mindset. He believed in the development of the whole person. Inspired by Don’s philosophy that learning can happen at any age, the Don Wood Foundation has developed the Lifelong Learning Funnel.
