GRANTMAKING SCHEDULE
The Don Wood Foundation receives grant requests on a rolling cycle. This means that you can apply at any time when your project is ready
without facing deadlines. We ask that you submit your grant proposal at least 120 days in advance of the date you need funding.
This gives foundation staff adequate time to research your proposal and ask any follow-up questions. A Program Officer from the foundation will be in touch with you throughout the process and will be your contact for questions and project updates as needed.
Our two-step process begins with an LOI, and if the proposal receives positive feedback a more thorough full application will be requested.
Finally, we recommend requesting funding as soon as you decide on a program or project. This ensures you have the most time to plan, prepare, and implement the resources you have available for the project in an effort to achieve your grant outcomes.

What is our grant process?
The Don Wood Foundation approaches the grant process in two stages:
- The LOI
- The Full Grant Application
Strategic funding partners must first submit an LOI to initiate the grant process. This will provide the Foundation basic information about your organization's need and the project/program you are seeking a funding partner to complete. The LOI will be reviewed by Foundation staff and our Grant Committee. If the project/program fits the Foundation's mission and gifting focus, your organization will be invited to submit a full grant application that will be reviewed by our entire Board of Trustees. Decisions about full grant applications are provided to grant seekers typically within 120 days of an LOI submission.

How do I know I'm eligible for support?
The Don Wood Foundation is a private foundation that makes grants to charitable organizations that are recognized by the IRS as being 501(c)(3) tax exempt status.
Unfortunately, many worthy proposals are declined each year because they do not fit in the foundation's mission or grant giving guidelines. This is not a reflection on the grant proposal. However, in the spirit of collaboration, the foundation will provide recommendations or referrals when applicable.

I noticed that some of the questions only allow for very brief answers. Why is that?
The Don Wood Foundation seeks to be a collaborative partner and is interested in hearing about the specific details of your request in your own words. Questions are brief which saves you time, yet still gives staff a high-level understanding of your request. If questions do arise, your Program Officer will be in touch about your submission.
